The Health Insurance Policy Advisor provides health insurance expertise in support of the Department’s policy direction for health insurance related issues. Reporting to a Deputy Commissioner, the Health Insurance Policy Advisor represents the Department and the Insurance Commissioner in effective collaborations with other state and federal government agencies, consumer groups and insurance industry representatives to improve health insurance regulation and consumer protection activities of the CDI.
In cooperation with other Departmental staff, the Health Insurance Policy Advisor develops health care policy initiatives, and monitors, analyzes, and makes recommendations on pending legislation impacting health insurance. The Advisor will focus on areas such as electronic medical records, comparative effectiveness of drugs and procedures, and other areas that will benefit from market cooperation and contain health insurance costs while limiting premium inflation.
Additionally, the Advisor acts as a liaison to various state and federal governmental health care regulatory agencies including the Department of Managed Health Care, Department of Health Services, the Governor’s Office of the Insurance Advisor, and the U.S. Department of Labor- Pension Welfare Benefits Administration.
